Celebrity Silhouette, the $800-million new ship from cruise line Celebrity Cruises, built in Germany at the Meyer Werft ship yard in Papenburg was inaugurated early this month. Weighing in at 122,000 GRT (gross registered tonnes) and measuring more than 315 m long, the vessel can accommodate over 2,880 guests and will offer a series of cruises throughout the eastern Mediterranean from Civitavecchia, near Rome. Later this year, the Celebrity Silhouette will sail to North America and offer cruises in the Caribbean throughout the winter from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. The new Celebrity Silhouette is the fourth Solstice-class ship from Celebrity Cruises, and boasts a number of exclusive new features including the Lawn Club Grill, the cruise industry’s first outdoor interactive grill. The specialty restaurant provides guests with the opportunity to grill their own meats and share BBQ secrets with the onboard chefs. The Alcoves private cabanas are another new addition, where private cabanas overlook a real grass lawn on the top deck; each designed for complete seclusion for two to four guests. The Hideaway’ will be cruise liner’s new sanctuary resembling an upscale, avant-garde tree house furnished with cozy lounging “nests” – perfect for those looking to unwind, read a good book or try out a new Apple product from the Celebrity iLounge. The Art Studio is a one-of-a-kind space specially created for experienced and aspiring artists. The studio will also offer guests a wide variety of lectures, demonstrations and interactive classes including jewelery creation, sketching and painting from experts and finally, the new Spa Vibes program where guests can indulge in personalized face or body treatments.
Additionally, new guest experiences include the innovative use of iPad menus in Qsine including interactive dinner menus and touch-screen beverage lists. More traditional guests can experience the new Afternoon Tea, which offers the ultimate indulgence as guests experience white glove tea service with Tea Forte loose teas served in custom made Wedgwood Bone China with elegant savories and pastry accompaniments. The ship also features designer boutiques from brands such as Michael Kors and Bvlgari, exclusive restaurants and an Apple-dedicated internet café – the Celebrity iLounge – offering guests classes in using iPads and iPhones.
